Oil and petrol separators must be cleaned regularly to ensure that they function properly.
REMONDIS Italia takes care of this
Maintenance and disposal of oil and petrol separators is mandatory
During operation, oil residues and sludge accumulate in the oil separator over time, which must be professionally removed at regular intervals. These residues often contain substances that are hazardous to water and can lead to considerable environmental pollution if handled improperly. Regular inspections, maintenance and proper disposal are therefore essential to ensure safe and smooth facility operation. Without regular emptying, the performance of the separator can drop significantly, which increases the risk of blockages or uncontrolled discharges. Continuous maintenance not only ensures proper operation, but also contributes to the long-term value retention of the facility.

How oil separators work in workshops, petrol stations and car washes
Oil separators are legally required collection devices in workshops, petrol stations and industrial plants. They prevent oily wastewater from entering the sewage system or natural waters. Due to the physical separation of water and light liquids such as oil or fuel, only pre-cleaned wastewater is passed on. The oil residues and sludge that accumulate in the separator over time must be removed regularly. The functional steps are shown in this graphic:
Wastewater contaminated with mineral oil and solids enters the oil separator via the inlet.
The components separate due to their different densities: Oil floats to the surface, while heavy solids and sludge sink to the bottom.
In the coalescence area, the finest oil droplets are separated, merged into larger droplets and also rise to the water surface.
If the oil content in the separator increases, the water level decreases. An integrated float automatically closes the drain and prevents oil from leaking out.
The pre-cleaned wastewater, which is significantly lower in pollutants, is then discharged into the sewerage system in a controlled manner.
